Sunny Deol visited his constituency on 4th September 2020 and discussed the ongoing pandemic with officials. He shared the photos of his latest visit on Twitter. The BJP MP from Gurdaspur has been facing a lot of trolling for staying away for a long time from the constituency. After winning last year, Deol announced that producer cum writer Gurpreet Singh Palheri will be looking after the daily matters of the constituency on his behalf.
The local people had put up the posters earlier in 2020 which read Gumshuda ki talash MP Sunny Deol (Search for missing MP Sunny Deol). Deol has also said that the controversy over the appointment of his personal assistant is unfortunate. He said that he had done this only to make sure that the workflow is looked after properly when he is not in the constituency.
He wrote on Twitter, “It is extremely unfortunate to see a controversy being created out of nothing at all. I have appointed my PA (Personal Assistant) to represent my office in Gurdaspur. This appointment has been made to ensure smooth flow of work whenever I am out of Gurdaspur to attend the parliament or travelling for work.” He further said that “the appointment was done in order to merely ensure that no work is disrupted or delayed due to any reason whatsoever and to keep myself updated on a daily basis“.
He wrote that he was “genuinely committed for the welfare of his constituency in Punjab and will serve people to the best of capacity“. He met Pathankot Senior Superintendent of Police Gulneet Singh Khurana on 5th September 2020 in Pathankot for discussing about the brutal attack on retired cricketer Suresh Raina’s family. Deol had defeated Congress candidate and sitting MP Sunil Jakhar in his debut election by 82,459 votes from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat in Punjab. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the seat was won by BJP after they pitched in actor Vinod Khanna.
