The 5 episodes of Kota Factory Season 1 revolve around Vaibhav Pandey played by Mayur More who joins a coaching institute which helps the students in preparing for IIT entrance exam. Vaibhav deals with heavy academic pressure and his friends also have a similar condition of denial and cutthroat rivalry. Uday featuring Alam Khan and Meena played by Ranjan Raj are his friends as well as competitors who help him to settle down in the place slowly. However, in the pace where emotions are distant or pretentious will the hero come out on his own is what the series is all about.
The cast has a lot of shades and effects according to the character they play. More is presented as a flawed being who is trapped between indecision and uncertainty. Vaibhav faces all the odds while competing with others. Though burdened by his own weakness, his glory and freedom become the victory of audiences. Every exam he fails brings us down and every time he solves a problem we feel victorious.
More as an actor, he delivers more through his silence and calm when he is tired of shouting his issue all around the city. The final episode named Overhaul has a long sequence of self-analysis where More shines as he rises from being a scared and unsure person to becoming a little confident IIT aspirant like all other students in the city. Alam Khan and Ranjan Raj are in the supporting role who are in the city like a hovering cloud.
Both of them unsynchronised and colourful lads and the three share great chemistry on screen. Raj’s unusual humour and his treatment of sidelined and trapped character Meena who goes into class consciousness will leave you laughing. Khan is very effortless, though he has done a character Chudail in Laakhon Mein Ek Season 1 which resembles the character he plays in the series. Ahsaas Channa in the role of a dominating girlfriend Shivangi Ranawat has a small but significant repetitive appearance in the show.
Shivangi is a small-time medical practitioner apart from having a straight-faced sarcasm and humour gives us a commentary on women in Kota who are less in number but thriving. Kota Factory also shows Jitendra Kumar in a major role.
He impresses as a mentor, teacher and observer Jeetu Bhaiya. He restores our faith in the fact behind booming capitalism and glossy advertising showed well by Deepak Simwal played by Gyan Mittal who is the owner of Prodigy classes that education can still be redeemed.
Kota Factory web series delivers pieces which are high on emotions and are further enhanced by some amazing cinematography and sound designed according to mood. The tighter frames are very suffocating while the wider frames are very relaxing. The camerawork is great as it increases the interest of audiences through long takes and has careful blockages as well as the choreography of actors.
