Moumita Bhattacharjee's advice: AVOID Virgin Bhanupriya!

Bhanupriya played by Urvashi Rautela is a highly qualified and smart college going girl whose regret in life is that she is a virgin. After getting advice from Rukul played by Rumana Molla Bhanu gathers courage for an intimate encounter. This makes for a comedy of errors. Bhanupriya has won many medals and is a bright student. Though her parents are separated and fight with each other constantly she still has a loving family life.

She regrets the fact that everybody has fulfilled their sexual fantasies except her. She is in college but she had not even kissed a boy. Her friend Rukul is constantly having men one after another in her life but Bhanu is yet to experience that pleasure. She fails many times in an attempt to lose her virginity and a tarot card reader predicts that she will always remain a virgin.  However destiny has its own way and Abhimanyu (Gautam Gulati) makes an entry in her life at this point of time.

Abhimanyu can go to any length to win the bet. Will he win her and break the chain that only time can tell. The movie is directed and written by Ajay Lohan and this dramedy has a very familiar theme which is a nerdy girl looking for ways to explore her sexuality. Then comes a bad and out of league boy with whom she falls in love.

Virgin Bhanupriya is about the taboo surrounding one’s sexual desires in society and how parents avoid talking with their children among other things. The in-depth handling of subjects like single motherhood, teen pregnancy and concept of love child is not done properly. Some of the parallel characters do not add anything in the already dull script like Natasha Suri as Shonali.

Urvashi Rautela is suitable in the role of the girl next door. Archana Puran Singh as an open-minded and mouthy mother is delightful to watch. Some other characters which leave their mark are Sumit Gulati as a prem pujari. Rajiv and Bhanu’s best friend and sidekick Rukul. Sumit Gulati gives much needed comic relief periodically, Rumana Molla’s Rukul is brassy and has few best monologues and one-liners.

The favorite one is Men are shit and shit is men. Gautam Gulati as a rowdy college heartbeat is a misfit. He desperately attempts to recapture Aamir Khan’s style in Gulaam. The chemistry between lead actors does not appeal by comedy standards or otherwise.

The love does not show on-screen and the sexual attraction seems forced upon. The movie has a noble intent and has a heart in the right place. However, an inconsistent storyline mixed with common tropes is something one would not like to watch on screen.
