A large number of post-pandemic lockdown films of different length and quality have been released around the world which shows that the real creative mind will find a way to tell the stories. Remote technical collaboration and smartphone can make you forget that we are vulnerable and alone more than ever in these days.
The Gone Game streaming on Voot Select is an interesting experiment. It is a four-episode series which cleverly uses the impact and onset of the virus as a crucial point in the plot. It leaves us looking at the puzzling scenario.
We are now in the phase of a pandemic where we are hearing about much more immunity and the amazing ability of some individuals to beat the virus. As the number of fatalities and infected continue to rise, The Gone Game is a timely fictional interference. However, it also shows the limitation of games people play in strict solo confinement. The spaces they inhabit start closing on them after a point and the situations become repetitive and the suspense is contrived.
The ablest actors also need a wiggle room and unfortunately, they do not get it. The other interesting part of watching The Gone Game is the realisation of how we have become prisoners to the digital devices. We can see the characters as much as they see themselves when they gather together for virtual meetings.
We see how we have become incapable of experiencing a moment by ourselves and the moment even if it is being lives is transferred on a social media platform with heavy hashtags. Will we be capable of disassociating ourselves with the devices even momentarily? Will we have a sense of self in the changed world once we can safely step out? The Gone Game gives us an extension and also a few answers.
