The story of Four More Shots Please moves around four friends Damini Rizvi Roy (Sayani Gupta), Siddhi Patel (Maanvi Gagroo), Anjana Menon (Kirti Kuhari) and Umang Singh (Gurbani Judge). They move through their lives and try to find their own lane and come face to face with themselves. This self-discovery is not as simple as it sounds.
Anjana and accomplished lawyer and divorcee know that it is a high time for her to make some life-altering decisions and leave the traumatic past behind after an alcohol-fueled incident with her little girl Arya (Jiya Lakhani). She melts in the arms of a much younger guy Arjun (Ankur Rathee) knowing that he wants a marriage that she doesn’t.
The headstrong girl in the gang Damini Rizvi Roy is kicked out from the website she had built on her own. As she wants to fight against the hooligans of the system, she writes about the suspicious death of a judge but no one publishes it as the topic is very controversial. Her love life is also crumbling as she is stuck between a good looking doctor and her sex partner Aamir Warsi (Milind Soman) and a caring and kind bar owner Jay (Prateik).
Thir gym freak friend and playgirl Umang falls in love with an actress Samara Kapoor (Lisa Ray) whose prime days are over. It is a case of drowning in love which the bisexual girl of Punjab does not let go. The first season takes us to the backstories of the girls and how they meet up at their favorite bar Truck Bar to discuss their problems ranging from office politics, unresolved feelings and nursing heartaches of each other.
The first season was also flawed but the flashy clothes, chiseled faces and stilettos made up for the lack of storyline. Season two boils up everything. The writers Rangita Pritish Nandy, Ishita Moitra and Devika Bhagat try out everything to bring the charm but fail to do so. There is no plausible solution and a half-baked plot only harms the series.
The topsy turvy ride of 10 episodes could have fitted well in the early 2000s but not in today’s world. The script depends on sex for a solution and has sexual hints which can bore anyone. The music is however good and the credit for it goes to Mikey McCleary and Medha Sahi for a heartbreaking song “I Don’t Do Love Anymore.” Kirti Kulhari is a broken-hearted and judgmental single mother in an uncomfortable arrangement who can be related to a great extent and has a pitiable situation.
Sayani Gupta is a fearless pig-headed and independent journalist who is very angry and loud. She brings out her frustration which at times look forced. Maanvi Gagroo’s act as a confusing child is annoying and hilarious. She is good as a stand-up comedian but not convincing as a grown-up individual who wants clarity in life.
Gurbani is completely fit in the web series but her small-town girl surviving in a big city act is hard to believe as she is very rich for the role. The girls try their best to work on a certain degree but as there is no meat in the story they cannot lift it up well.
Despite all the ingredients used to cook up Four More Shots Please Season 2 we wonder why the 21st-century girls who have gumption and gut rely on sex, more sex, shots and boy toys every time.
