Bhaukaal Review – Mostly Old Wine In Old Bottle With Few Engaging Parts.

Bhaukaal web series on MX player is based on real incidents in Muzaffarnagar, U.P. The town is said to be the crime capital of India. SSP Naveen Sikera played by Mohit Raina fights against it and tries to clean the place. He is a straightforward, idealistic, and righteous person with only a single mission in mind.

The actor shows the qualities required in the character and tries to be as much natural as possible without any pretense. The actor shows many shades and emotions of the character. However, he is not able to make the role much memorable. The character of Sikera could have been like Samar Partap Singh of Shool but that is not the case.

Jatin Wagle has an easy but difficult job in handling the content of the series. The story is predictable and real incidents have been sed for many scenes. Jatin’s job is to provide a good narration along with a brief and clear screenplay which does not happen.

Bhaukaal web series starts in a predictable manner and we wait for seriousness so that momentum can be gained. It comes when the lead character stands face to face with the antagonist. The momentum dips and picks up when an undercover angle is shown in the narrative. It then starts looking like a period setting. The proceedings are so generic that one does not care about the time frame.

When Sikera makes an encounter team and vigilance activities take place, the series comes alive. The momentum is not sustained and felt only in some parts. The infiltration and the chemistry between the encounter gang are some of the appealing aspects. The cringy flashback talks only drag the story.

Bhaukaal web series is a decent watch and the final few episodes are more engaging. The climax shows how Bhaukaal could have become extraordinary and how it has turned out to become. For cop stories lovers, it is a decent watch with few engaging moments. For others, the fast forward option is average except for a few engaging parts.

Abhimanyu Singh is not properly explored in the series and the entire team of Bhaukaal Season 1 is good. Their chemistry is palpable and so are the supporting parts in gangster side. Sunny Hinduja and Ravi Pandey give their best performance. All the others are average with the characters given to them.

The music and cinematography is ordinary and unremarkable. The Bhaukaal web series is like a short film that could have had better quality. The editing is okay and writing is superficial. The focus should have been on bringing out the mentality of characters rather than usage of profanity.
