Basement Company Web Series Review – Clueless Dramedy That Is All Over The Place.

Raj and Rahul join a start-up company called Punjabi Beats as freshers. The boss of the company is loud with a good heart. The duo is sent to work in the basement as a part of changing the seating arrangement of the people in the company. The basement is not an ideal place to work. Raj and Rahul try to move to the company’s main area but their senior Pankaj Pandey tricks them into not doing it. Simran is like a bright light in the otherwise boring life of both the boys. They try together to move to the main company office and their struggle forms the main part of the story.

There are six major characters who play an important role despite their character length in the Basement Company web series. Gagan Arora, Apoorva Arora and Mayur More are in the role of three new jobholders. Each of them has a different style and it can be seen in their previous web series.

They are in the same zone without any change or versatility. Their performance is apt for the show which is of short length and does not require histrionics. All three play their part well. Jassi Kapoor, Avinash Pandey and Chidaksha Chand are in the second part of the web series. They are also good in the characters given to them.

Jassi Kapoor has the most challenging role among all. He, however, fails to get it right. He could have made the role a memorable one. He comes up with another stereotypical Punjabi act which is not unique.

The characterization and writing is very weak and cannot lift the series. Among Chidaksha Chand and Avinash Pandey, Avinash steals the show. His character has a small screen time but it is impactful due to clear and simple establishment of punches and roles. The series is directed by Divyanshu Malhotra. He has opted for a simple and identifiable story for youth in the series.

Basement Company looks like a mashup of The It Crowd and The Office, However, the web series starts getting weak after the premise. Basement Company web series has five episodes. Every episode gives a different feeling at the end. There is inconsistency in the web series and the overall tone cannot be understood properly. At one moment everything is fine and on the other, we are unable to understand what is happening.

The first episode leaves us in confusion about the background and setup of the story. It might make you feel like an IT company. The length is short and not draggy so one leaves these details and gets in the narrative. The first two episodes are good and one feels that they have a small and entertaining web series.

Despite no out of the box writing or content we still feel the series to be good. However, things turn dramatically in the third episode. The existing plot is lost in the process of sounding more dramatic. The fourth and fifth episode is such that the team does not know where to go. There are many ideas thrown at once which leaves one confused.

Basement Company is a badly executed simple idea. There are parts that are predictably funny but do not make an impact. Ankur Srivastava’s music is generic and the photography by Vaishnav Tiwari is okay. The editing by Salman Malik is neat and the writing is decent in some areas. There are few one-liners which have been superbly written. Overall Basement Company is a one time watch if you have seen the previous web series of lead characters.
