Laxmii Review starts with Rashmi featuring Kiara Advani who sees it as an opportunity to mend her relations with her family when she is invited by her mother on her 25th wedding anniversary. The woman, who has been trying to reunite with the family goes along with her husband Asif played by Akshay Kumar to her home. However, there are strange things which happen at the family home and Asif becomes someone he is not as he is possessed by a revenge spirit Laxmii.
When the neighbourhood kids refuse to play in a playground as they think that a spirit lives there Asif brushes these thoughts off and goes on to play IPL in the ground. The earth changes beneath and above with the soil nailing as dark clouds start hovering at a fast pace and dried autumn leaves start flowing.
A comedy can be made or broken with the actor’s timing, witty one-liners and the relevance and landing of jokes. However, Laxmii Movie review has none of these elements. The project is an ambitious one and has been picked up with an interesting angle to deepen the narrative by showing the transgender ghost with an unfinished business. However, the execution is melodramatic and over the top. The first half has pointless and random fights between the characters.
Akshay Kumar charms as an atheist and a man possessed with a ghost but that he has always done in his films. Kiara Advani balanced herself with a charming smile and sensible nature. Rajesh Sharma as Papa is a husband who tries to convince everyone including himself that he is in charge of his life. However, with a jagrata crazy son Deepak and tanker like wife played by Ayesha Raza Mishra, Sharma is an inactive player who denies comfort.
Ayesha Raza Mishra and Ashwini Kalsekar’s character Ashwini are all in for screams and fights and no single scene between them brings out a smile or even grin. Raghava Lawrence’s direction is an effort to overcompensate for lack of humour and clarity in the plot and the discomfort and need for polishing up is obvious and visible.
