Khuda Haafiz is set in the times of the global economic crisis of 2008 when many people lost their jobs and looked for stop-gap arrangements. It features a Lucknow family which faces the toughest time without their fault.
Sameer played by Vidyut Jammwal and Nargis Chaudhary played by Shivaleeka Oberoi are a newly married couple but fate takes the wife to a country called Noman where she is kidnapped. She somehow managed to make one last call to Sameer who sets out to find her.
There are few scenes in the beginning where Jammwal gives a glimpse of his innate talent but the movie keeps on moving between many emotions. Jammwal’s scared self at the Indian embassy in Noman tries to set up the tone but the forced change of plots and faulty accents never let the film soar very high.
Jammwal thankfully kicks some backs otherwise it could have become tedious to sympathize with his rescue mission. Khuda Haafiz is a case of bits and pieces film. The focus lies on Jammwal’s martial arts training skills and we cannot look beyond that however hard he tries to ace the role.
It is actually tough for Nargis to be on a foreign land but the tougher part is Annu Kapoor’s put-on accent. You want her to return safely but you will not like paying for it. Khuda Haafiz is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
