A Spirited Kiara Advani Toplines Half-Baked Comedy.
Indoo Ki Jawani review revolves around Indoo, whose boyfriend betrays her and she decides to find love through one-night stand on a dating app. A romantic turns out to be very wrong when her date is from Pakistan. Indira Gupta featuring Kiara Advani is a girl who is eyed out by everyone from adolescents to uncles. She is trending in Ghaziabad’s social media handle.
She dates a loser who wants to make out with her but Indoo will not do so unless he asks for her hand formally. He cheats on her and Indoo goes to her trusted friend Sonal played by Mallika Dua, who exactly knows what boys want. She tells Indoo that all the men want to get into female pants and are skirt chasers.
Then comes Dinder where you can swipe right for no strings attached action before it gets too late. Indoo takes this ill advice without thinking too much about it and in a very first swipe, a young and dashing man Samar played by Aditya Seal comes to her house when she is alone at home. Then comes a rumour that some Pakistanis are on the loose and Indoo might have invited the trouble home.
The first few minutes of Indoo Ki Jawani are very promising. In the early scenes, we think that the movie will be a comical spy thriller with a lot of twists but then the movie goes off track and does not retain its charm. Old men and weird teens try to make headlines to catch Indoo’s attention. It becomes very clear that casual sexism will be passed off as comedy which is loud, illogical and unfunny. There is no conviction in storytelling as well.
Mallika Dua again plays a friend to a typical small-town girl. She brings some laughs because of her northern accent but when the action comes to Indoo’s home none of the laughter is retained. The scenes are laborious and the conversations are repetitive. We do not find any chemistry between the lead cast of Indoo Ki Jawani and the accent is also very scattered.
Kiara Advani and Aditya Seal are very attractive in the film and we also find a forced shirtless scene in the movie. Kiara Advani is very gorgeous and tries to make an effort to bring randomness to her character. Her comic timing is weak but her screen presence is very good. Aditya Seal is also let down by weak writing. The music of Indoo Ki Jawani can be listened to and the songs have been shot well.
The narrative is very confused like Indoo’s character who is confused between having fun with a badass or worrying about what people will think. The film tries to go everywhere from not judging a book by its cover to saying all Indians are very judgemental and Pakistan roasting to half-hearted patriotism but reaches and concludes nowhere.
