Gulabo Siatbo released on Amazon Prime Video on June 12. It is the first movie to be released online due to lockdown. The movie stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles and is filmed by Shoojit Sircar. The cinematography, characters and dialogues make the movie worth a watch.
Amitabh gives a wonderful performance as slow, clever or bent over Mirza who is greedy for getting the mansion. The prosthetics show us a completely different side of Bachchan who uses his face and gait to bring newness in the character. Khurrana matches him with a tone of a common man which has defined him now.
Khurrana brings out Rastogi’s insecurities and desperation rather than confidence. The supporting cast of Vijay Raaz as an archeological officer, Brijendra Kala as a lawyer and Srishti Shrivastava as Rastogi’s sister are also outstanding. The hero of the stroy is Fatima Mahal. The building has a history to it and is one of the forgotten places of Lucknow.
The cinematographer shows every nook and corner of the building lovingly in its glory. The presence of the building is felt in the dialogues, stories and character’s eyes due to Juhi Chaturvedi’s writing. The film fails in editing, pacing and scripting. The situation and plotline have been unnecessarily stretched and makes it boring.
The humor is not worth remembering. The only thing which makes you watch the movie is resolution. The movie could have been made crispier. The movie is a distraction in these tough times and can be watched once due to cinematography and characters but it cannot be rewatched.
