Depiction of Delhi 6 reflects that Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has a genuine understanding lifestyles followed by the families of Delhi, their quirks etc. The story revolves around protagonist Roshan Mehra (played by Abhishek Bachchan), an NRI who comes to India to make her granny (Waheeda Rehman) visit Old Delhi in the last phase of her life.
In due course of time, Roshan Mehra finds himself intensely grossed up with his neighbors and new pals including two quarrelsome brothers now turned enemies (Om Puri and Pavan Malhotra), their wives and kids who gel with each other’s family well, Laalaji (played by Prem Chopra), streetside jalebi-wala (Deepak Dobriyal), the local bully police-wala (Vijay Raaz), the temple worker (Atul Kulkarni), and the low-caste sweeper girl (Divya Dutta).
Various scenes are an eye-opening experience for Roshan. His friendship is growing with Bittu (Sonam Kapoor), an ambitious Indian Idol wannabe. Then there is a monkey man scare act added to the film that has grabbed the attention of the whole of the city. The final phase of the film sees Hindu-Muslim confrontations that intend to spoil the relationships among these happy neighbours and friends
The only glitch is that the movie ends up conveying the message like a hammer. It makes the audiences cringe.
It’s a good film to watch!
