Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa is directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta. Movie was screened in the BFI London Film Festival in the year 2013 but didn’t released uptil now. Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa review is not about the journey of the leading character Anwar but it is single-handedly moved on by Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s role of the protagonist. It is a very slow-paced film which cannot hold the attention of viewers but Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s performance gives us the patience to watch the film.
He spies on people in a completely different manner. Rather than keeping his identity secret, he openly tells people that he is a detective and his actions are justified through moralism. He fails to separate his personal and professional life. He gets so much involved in his client’s life that he goes on a philosophical trip and reflects on his advantages of spying on people.
Anwar is different from others. He drinks with his sole friend and pet dog Lalu. When drunk, he concludes about his life by connecting his ideas with new people he comes across while doing his job. Anwar’s real life and philosophical journey are mixed and the audience needs to figure out the connection between them.
Whenever a new character is introduced, a new shade of Anwar is shown and some broken sequences are linked with revelations to show Anwar’s journey back to his roots. His off and on meeting with the love of his life Aesha played by Niharika Singh who left him for someone else shows Anwar recalling her in some of the crucial moments of his life in his subconscious mind.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s creation of the character compassion and drawbacks makes us overlook the faulty screenplay and over the top dialogues. The other characters are however not of the same ability and in other performances, we can see the loopholes. Pankaj Tripathi’s character Anmol does not make a strong presence with his brief role in the film. Ananya Chatterjee also cannot display her performance as Anmol’s deserted wife.
Farrukh Jaffar as a smiling and attractive woman shines on the screen with her lovely expressions and presence. Diego Romero’s outdoor camerawork is better than when he captures
Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa is a tiresome watch and the two-hour film seems to be never-ending. The film glorifies Nawazuddin Siddiqui indirectly as an actor who proves his abilities yet again despite the scripts.
