The news of Dia Mirza playing the role of Maanyata Dutt in the reel life of the Sanjay biopic, which is directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in the role of the superstar Sanjay Dutt himself. When asked about how it is to be working alongside Ranbir and Rajkumar, Dia said “I have the deepest regard and respect for his sensibilities, and for the stories, he chooses to tell. And to work with the team and Ranbir [Kapoor] was deeply gratifying. I got to learn so much. To be a part of a biopic and essay the life of a real person and to experience the circumstances that they’ve lived in is everything an actor could ever ask for. It was one of the most positive work environments.”
Earlier in an interview, Ranbir spoke about the biopic, “Sanju Sir has been closely attached to the film. It used to be surreal for me because I am acting like him. He has come on set and has been amazingly supportive. He used to sit in front of the monitor and see some scenes and be so happy. He’s like an overgrown child, who gives love to people…I feel like I was born to play this part. He is the only actor whose picture is on my cupboard and to play him is surreal. Getting a physical look right is easy. To get somebody’s soul right, the human being right- that’s the hard part. I hope I’ve done a good job.” Ranbir also added, “I’m grateful for this film and am working hard on it. I hope that people understand this man’s life, his soul through my work.”
The movie also stars Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Karishma Tanna in crucial roles and is set to release on March 2018.
