In the latest news from the Film industry, there was an absolute sensation created by some of the fanatical and outspoken Bollywood celebrities for their bold statements on social media, regarding the influence of West on the industry & specifically the name ‘BOLLYWOOD,’ which needs to be changed. A few days back, Bollywood’s one of the bold actress Kangana Ranaut – much talked about in the news everywhere due to actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case; had tweeted on her social media handle about the effect of Hollywood on Bollywood.
She had also stated that “She wants to change one thing, the name ‘Bollywood’ itself, as the name or term Bollywood is simply copied from Hollywood and thus that the term should be banned.” She also then implored to everyone in the industry to rebuff the aforesaid name and change it. In a recent interview with a well renowned daily Newspaper – Hindustan Times; Famous actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has also opined on joining this league with actress Kangana Ranaut. this subject matter of ‘Influence of West on Bollywood Film Industry.’
Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the past few months, has been in the latest Bollywood news for numerous attention seeking issues and triggers, right from a review on his recent film Serious Men aired on Netflix forum to discussions about matters in his personal life being conversed unto an extent, the actor has been in the limelight amongst the viewers, audience, critics as well as amongst his Fans. While receiving praises and applauds for showcasing outstanding acting talent in Serious Men on Netflix, the actor expressed his views on Hollywood’s impact on Bollywood in his interview with Hindustan Times.
In his interview with HT, he said that “He agrees with the issue of Influence of West on Bollywood” and he also said that “ To start with it, he first wants to change one thing that is the name ‘Bollywood’ itself, which is influenced as well as adopted directly from Hollywood Film Industry.”
He furthermore added that “currently the industry trend is such that any film average or good if it receives some kind of awards or accolades in the West, e.g., in Cannes Festival or Nomination in Oscars; then it will be immediately aspired as worthy here in Bollywood too irrespective of the factual content or quality of the movie. This shows that till date, the situation has not changed and in our industry still Movies need corroboration or recognition from the West for reaching the audience.” Additionally, he added that fortunately, this was not the case with his Movie – Serious Men, and also the audience is enjoying & acknowledging the film.
