On the occasion of National Cancer Survivors Day writer, director and cancer survivor Tahira Kashyap has written a powerful poem entitled Scars for encouraging cancer survivors to proudly show off their scars. The scars represent the never give up spirit that cannot be crushed by fright.
Kashyap has always been open about her fight against cancer and is one of the strong personalities for encouraging people to fight against cancer. She shared the poem on 7th June 2020 on her Instagram handle where she wrote that no should hide their scars as it denotes their strength, fight and power to hold themselves during the battle.
She had shared the video with the backdrop of her popular picture showing her scars and reading the poem as a voiceover. She read the poem as “Some scars are deep, some within, some are seen while some are hidden. The thing about scars is, it reminds you of the past, the moments of suffering that you thought would forever last.”
She also said that there are more to these scars as they talk about “fight, resilience and your invincible power”. Kashyap motivated people to flaunt and show and show their scars which she called “badge of honour…your prize” in the poem.
She concluded the poem by saying, “So hear me one last time, fall in love with yourself, all with dust, scar, and grime. For that’s what makes you, You, faulty, imperfect, blemished but all true!” Many of her fans and actors like Yami Gautam and Dia Mirza showcased their love and appreciation for poetry among others.
Tahira was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2018 at an early stage. Since then, she has been putting in all the efforts to spread awareness and applaud those who are bravely coming out of this disease.
