After the announcement of Gulabo Sitabo going for an online release on Amazon Prime Video, Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi will also be released online on Amazon Prime Video. This has been done due to the coronavirus pandemic which has led to the shutting down of cinema halls across the country.
The producers of the movie have announced that the biopic on mathematician will be airing on Amazon Prime Video this June. The movie is directed and written by Anu Menon and bankrolled by Vikram Malhotra and Sony Pictures Network Production. The dialogues are by Ishita Moitra and the screenplay is by Nainika Mahtani and Anu Menon.
Anu Menon said, “I’m so excited that the film will have its world premier on Amazon Prime Video and everyone will get to experience Shakuntala’s incredible journey and Vidya’s magical portrayal of her soon!.”
Menon also said that there was no one better than Vidya who could have captured Shakuntala Devi’s wisdom and wit. Shakuntala Devi was known as a human computer as she could solve complex calculations within seconds.
Menon further added, “Shakuntala Devi’s passion for maths and her determination to spread its joy to the world was unparalleled. She lived ahead of her times and on her own terms – and as we all strive to change the narrative of the female protagonist on screen, her story is one that calls out to be told! And there’s no one better than Vidya to capture Shakuntala’s wit and wisdom!.”
The film also features Amit Sadh, Sanaya Malhotra and Jisshu Sengupta in major roles. The movie was to be released on may 8 but got delayed because of COVID 19 lockdown.
