Dil Bechara is the last film of Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. It is going to be a poignant experience as the theme of Mukesh Chabbra’s film is such. It is an official remake of Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley’s The Fault in Our Stars. It casts Sushant Singh Rajput and debutante Sanjana Sanghi as two youngsters who are battling cancer with a stoic spirit.
The two youngsters fall for each other while bonding over music and movies. While Sushant’s character’s cancer is almost over, Sanjana’s character tries to distance herself from him so that he does not get hurt. They go for a visit to Paris which strengthens their bond all the more.
Dil Bechara will be released on Disney+ Hotstar on July 24. The platform has made the film available for free for both subscribers as well as non-subscribers as a tribute to Sushant Singh Rajput who passed away on June 14. This is the last film of the actor who gave many memorable performances in MS Dhoni biopic, Chhichhore and many others.
Sanjana shared her nervousness on her Instagram handle ahead of the Dil Bechara trailer launch. She wrote, “Nobody told me this is what pre-trailer jitters can feel like!!! Stomach’s RUMBLING and ROARING. I can feel y’all and him are with us. #DilBechara.”
It is adapted from the famous novel The Fault in Our Stars by John Greene and has Saif Ali Khan in a cameo appearance. The Fault in Our Stars was directed by Josh Boone and starred Shailene and Ansel with Sam Trammell, Nat Wolff, Williem Dafoe and Laura Dern. It was an American romantic drama released in 2014.
Woodley was in the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster a 16-year-old cancer patient who had cancer since she was a child. She then meets Augustus who has lost a leg in the disease and his cancer is slowly depleting. The two have a spirited and touching romance. She introduces Gus to her favorite novel and he arranges for both of them to fly to Amsterdam for meeting its alcoholic author. They grow closer during the journey even when the disease continues affecting their lives.
Mukesh Chabbra, the director also said that Sushant did not read the script before nodding for the film. He said, “I remember long ago Sushant had promised me that whenever I make my first film, he would star in it as the lead and he kept his promise. So when I approached him for Dil Bechara, he immediately said yes, without even reading the script. We always had this strong emotional connection”.
Sushant worked very closely with Mukesh while the film was being made and always gave his creative ideas for improvising a scene. Mukesh shared how Sushant helped him in the direction by saying, “He used to always help me improve the scene. He used to read with me and if at any point he felt that creatively the scene could be improved he used to always let me know. We used to sit together and discuss at length.”
