Nandita Das, the actor-turned-director, is on the floor with her directorial debut, Firaaq. It will release nationwide on March 20, 2009, but will not be screened in Gujarat multiplexes. The multiplex owners have an ongoing tiff with the distributors on the issue of profit sharing.
This has kindled the fire between both the parties and as a result, the release of the film has to suffer. The percentage of profit-sharing is the main issue of confrontation between both parties. The President of All Gujarat Multiplex Association, Manubhai Patel that first, they would figure out the percentage only then the issue can be solved. As the movie is based primarily on the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat so there is a belief that this might adversely affect communal harmony of the two major communities of Gujarat.
