Pati Patni aur Panga Review is all about Romanchak Arora, a man in his late 20s plus a real estate broker whose family has conservative beliefs. His life is very uneventful and lonely until he meets Shivani, a client whom he rents the flat. As Shivani is unable to get a good flat he offers to help and gives one room of his home on rent. Slowly, Shivani and Romanchak get attracted to each other and are in a relationship that makes the boy’s mother very happy. They get married but when Shivani tells him about the dark chapter of her life the marriage begins to fall apart.
Alka Amin plays the role of a modern mother very well and Gurpreet Singh has done a reasonably good job as the sidekick of the main lead. There are many shows and films today which try to highlight the problems of homophobia. Pati Patni aur Panga is a humorous approach to a man who undergoes a sex reassignment surgery and becomes a woman. She then shows her struggles for gaining acceptance in a traditional society.
The atmosphere is filled with orthodox ideas till the last episode but its progressive climax lowers down the negativity of the series. There are many other drawbacks of the series as well. The mother and son discuss virginity and sex freely and the series tries to give a new angle to the parent-child relationship which backfires. The guy gets embarrassed when asked about the sex he had last night.
The courtroom scenes are not very effective. The lawyer representing Romachak offers lunch and sweets to the judge and he calls a journalist to give news about his client which will hit the headlines. The female protagonist and lawyer’s fight is not effective and is silly. The relationships in the show lack meat as the transformation and reaction are sudden and convenient. The instant attraction between Shivani and Romanchak is quick and their marriage also falls easily which feels utopian.
Kshitij Tarey and Ranajoy Bhattacharjee’s background and beautiful music are the saviors of the web series. The music allows enough space for viewers to absorb the emotion of every situation. The writing at times becomes very slippery. The cinematography by Abhimanyu Sengupta is nice as he does not want to prove his expertise and abides by the soul of the material.
