The Raikar Case is the latest in the list of web series released in the year 2020. The Raikar Case web series is streaming live on Voot App.
The untimely death of the youngest member in Naik Raikars which is a leading business family in Goa sets police and politicians in a headspin. It is difficult to understand whether Tarun Naik Raikar has been murdered or committed suicide?
Everybody in the wealthy and influential family which is headed by Yashwant played by Atul Kulkarni and his wife Sakshi featuring Ashvini Bhave has a closet filled with skeletons and secrets which slowly come out after Tarun’s death. The tone of the series shifts from who did it to a darker side as power shifts between king and kingmakers the old guard and next-gen.
During the police investigation, under the command of John Pereira or Neil Bhoopalam is always one step behind Tarun’s closest confidante cousin Etasha or Parul Gulati is determined to find out the murderer. The investigation is haphazard and reactive, though police systemically interrogates different suspects in every episode every family member has a powerful motive and an undisclosed truth.
Neatly dressed Raikars come together for mourning in a living room after which their shaking interpersonal relationships are revealed. Besides the family, other players are a local politician and his irrational son Eklavya or Lalit Prabhakar. Writers Anitha Nair, Karmanya Ahuja and Bijesh Jayarajan use Rashomon technique for showing various possibilities.
The repeated information and dialogues by Chinmay Mandlekar and over usage of structure waste precious minutes. The script has many sweeping liberties for it to be a mystery and invests less time in fixing the loopholes. The script does not assign agency to police or rigor to their investigation. Things keep on happening coincidentally or arbitrarily.
Sarpotdar gives a mood to the story but the actors work on a palette which emphasizes more on histrionics and drama rather than subtlety and suspense. A hook that is given at the end of the episode is very frustrating as stretching the story does not bring out one’s appetite for more.
