Irrfan Khan, one of the versatile actors of Bollywood passed away at the age of 53 due to colon infection. He was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Hospital in Mumbai. The actor had been battling neuroendocrine tumour since 2018 and has undergone treatment for the same. He is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikdar and sons Babil and Ayan.
The news of his demise was shared on Twitter by filmmaker and Piku director Shoojit Sircar. He wrote,“My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om shanti. Irfaan Khan salute”.
His family had issued an official statement in 2018 where he said “I trust, I have surrendered” when he was being treated for the rare tumour neuroendocrine tumour. He was a man of few words and conveyed his expressions through deep eyes and memorable actions on screen.
Few days back, Irrfan’s mother passed away and the last words before taking his last breath was “Amma has come to take me”. It might be said that the death of his mother consumed him and killed him from inside as he could not attend her funeral. The actor has left a legacy of his own and he will always remain irreplaceable as he was himself an institute of acting.
Irrfan Khan proved that one does not have to be a star kid for becoming a star. He acted in various Bollywood and Hollywood movies and lived the characters. Acting was not a profession but passion for him. From not having money to buy a Jurassic Park ticket to acting in Jurassic World he made people believe that dreams come true if you pursue them relentlessly.
Rest in Peace Irrfan! You will always be remembered as a wonderful actor, loving husband, doting father and a faithful son and most of all one of the honest and lovely souls.
