Movie Rating:
Billu is yet another weak attempt from Priyadarshan. The film focuses more on the larger-than-life character of superstar Shah Rukh Khan than real Billu played by Irfan Khan. King Khan visibly seems to be too elated to play himself and has hogged the limelight depriving Billu of his due, the protagonist of the film.
There is too much emphasis laid on the commercialization. Glamourous pinch with Deepika, Priyanka and Kareena has been added to make up for the otherwise flat storyline The story goes like this that Billu is poverty-struck barbers and finds it hard to earn his daily bread and butter also. Suddenly Sahir Khan (SRK), a Bollywood star, enters the scene for shooting a song in the village and lands up in Billu’s dockyards. The rumour spreads in the village that Billu and Sahir Khan are childhood friends. Helping hands from all over the village flow in to give Billu whatever he needs varying from food to money. Everyone wants to meet Sahir Khan through Billu but he is quite reluctant to approach the superstar owing to his miserable financial status.
Irfan has delivered an effortlessly good performance. Shah Rukh Khan has played himself, so no big deal! Om Puri and Asrani have delivered usual performances. Weak direction, faulty editing!
